Premiered in Kuala Lumpur and Penang in April 2017, Shakespeare Demystified: MACBETH has toured to various towns in Malaysia: Kuala Kangsar, Seremban, Nilai, Johor Bahru, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu. In 2018 it even went to Manila and Seoul for Shakespeare Festivals. To date it has been performed over 50 times, and requests are still coming in.
This unique abridged production of Shakespeare’s classic play condenses the normally three-hour long play into 100 minutes, with a focus on the play’s iconic scenes in original Shakespearean English. Narration is delivered in contemporary English, punctuating the performance in order to provide context, character analyses and clarifications of unfamiliar “Shakespearean expressions”. Theatre-goers who are unfamiliar with Shakespeare will know the play’s main plot points, major themes and relevant issues by the end of the performance.
